Pattern: Redford by Julie Hoover
Yarns: Garnstudio Drops Karsima
shade # 75 petrol-cerise
Needles: 3.0mm and 3.5mm
This sweater was a birthday present to my darling husband on his 33rd birthday (along with a couple of books he had asked for). His actual birthday was already a few weeks ago, but luckily he's a patient guy and didn't mind waiting. Magnus got to decide the sweater design and the yarn he wanted for it. Since Drops Karisma is thicker than what the pattern called for I decided to make the sweater one size smaller than I otherwise would have. The size seems to be good.
I decided I didn't like the exposed seams and also thought they might look bulky because of the heavier yarn choice, so I seamed the pieces together in the normal way (seams inside the fabric). Magnus also wanted me to add a couple of cm extra length and he didn't like the bottom edge rolling up so I added a ribbing. I picked up one stitch per one from the bottom edge onto 3.0 mm circular needle and did a similar "k 1 tbl, p 1" ribbing as for the neck band and the cuffs.
I hate seaming so I knitted the sleeves in the round, starting with the ribbing on smaller needles, purling one row and changing to bigger needles and stockinette stitch. I knitted the shoulder cap back and forth. I started knitting the sleeves in the same size (second smallest) as the body, but they turned out so wide that I took them apart and started again with the smallest size. My gauge is bigger than instructed because of the heavier yarn, and this sleeve size was perfect.
The sweater has a classic vintage inspired look with panels of reverse stockinette on the sides to make it a bit more interesting. It was really easy to knit albeit sometimes even borderline boring: mostly it's just simple stockinette stitch back and forth. That's why I had a couple of other projects on my needles the whole time while I was knitting this; I had the option of alternating between different projects when I felt like I needed a change.
Magnus seems to really like his new pullover and if he's happy with it, so am I. Now I will go back to my selfish knitting ways and knit some things for myself before the Christmas present season starts again.

DeleteJust found your blog! Wonderful works and wonderful blog! :)
ReplyDeleteHei! Kiva kuulla että tykkäät!
DeleteWhat a wonderful, classic looking sweater! The yarn he chose is gorgeous too. He clearly has a good eye for those kind of things.
ReplyDeleteI think the yarn choice is really good as well, he chose well. He has a very clear view what he likes and what he doesn't like and he's almost impossible to persuade once he has decided something. When I first asked him what colour he wants he said "burgundy" and I had to double check what he really wanted because I didn't know the word "burgundy" was a part of his vocabulary :) he chose the blueish yarn in the end because he didn't find the right shade of burgundy he wanted, they were all too red for his taste.
