WE ARE KNITTERS X LUNAKNIT BLOG.

WE ARE KNITTERS X LUNAKNIT BLOG. A few weeks ago I got an email from We are knitters asking if I was interested in a little social collaboration with them. I was over the moon happy about this opportunity! It is a privilege to get to work with such a well-known company as WAK. Initially WAK was looking for Swedish knitters to promote their yarn and kits, but after clearing the small confusion about my origins, (I live in Finland, and not Sweden even though the part of Finland I’m from is bilingual, and about 50% Swedish speaking) I was still welcomed on board. The slogan of We are knitters is “All the happiness in a kit”. The company’s main idea is that anyone can learn how to knit and make their own clothes, and the patterns range from very beginner to more advanced level. The website has video tutorials for everything you need to know about knitting your own garments: all the stitches and special techniques are explained from casting on to weaving in ends and ever...

SELUNE.

Thank God for KALs! (That is Knit Alongs, in case you were wondering.) Otherwise this beauty would never have seen the light of day. I don't know why I had totally snubbed this pattern and never even considered knitting it, because it is actually absolutely beautiful and also a really fun pattern to knit. Me knitting the scarf in Berlin. When Brooklyn Tweed Lace KAL started in July I was eager to take part but lace shawls aren't really my thing even though I like knitting them. I was desperately trying to look for the perfect pattern when the Selune scarf by Julie Hoover popped on my Ravelry search. Love at first sight. I knew I wanted to make a thicker scarf though, something to get me through winter and decided to change the suggested lace weight yarn for a woolen fingering weight. I chose Tukuwool Fingering in shade Uupo, since I had it already in my stash.  Trying to take photos when it's really windy isn't always that easy! Also...

Berlin.

My sister moved to Berlin in the beginning of February. Her husband works as a diplomat and they will be staying in the capital of Germany for the next three to four years. Which means Berlin will most likely become very familiar to me as well in the coming years. I traveled with my mother and the main point of our trip was to see my sister (whom I last saw in September and my mom in October), but we did have time for some sightseeing and yarn shopping as well. Even if the cherry trees and magnolias were in full bloom we didn't have the best luck with weather on this trip. My sister said that a few weeks before our visit it had been sunny and warm enough to wear just a t-shirt, but during our stay it was gray, windy and it even snowed a couple of times! So woolen sweaters and a winter coat were a necessity. Luckily Berlin is filled with cool cafes to pop into everytime the cold became too much to bear. One of my favorites was the No Fire No Glory on Rykestrasse 4...

FLET Pullover.

If you are thinking about knitting only one pullover for the winter season, might I suggest this one? This pullover was in my queue for a bit over a year before I finally casted on for it. I also had the yarn in my stash waiting pretty much the same time. I don't know why it took me so long to actually start with this one, because it is perfect. I loved knitting it although I do love wearing it even more. I used Drops Merino Extrafine for this one and it is just perfectly squishy and smooth and I really enjoyed using it, so much actually that I immediately casted on another project with it, this time in black. At the moment I'm knitting the Koto pullover which is also designed by olgajazzy, as is the Flet pullover. PS. I wish I could try knitting with Woolfolk FÃ¥r - the yarn that this pullover was originally designed for. I've only heard rave reviews for it... Apogee Test Knit.

I've been lucky to test knit this beautiful pullover for Erica Smith (ericacanknit on Ravelry). This is my second time test knitting for her and must say I wasn't disappointed. She has such a great designing style and eye for details, and her patterns are always well written and easy to follow. Apogee pullover is very lightweight without being flimsy. It is knitted in pieces from bottom up, so there's quite a lot of seaming to be done at the end of it all. The side seams actually are the most interesting part of this design as they diagonal as opposed to normal vertical seams. As hard as I tried, photographing them was pretty impossible - the one time the seams are actually supposed to show I manage pull off my best job seaming ever! Also the dark blue color I chose for this pullover makes the details less prominent. But look at the two photos below, I have highlighted the seam in the bottom photo so maybe that makes it easier to spot the detail I'm talking about. I co...

On My Needles.

First of all, thank you all for your kind words regarding my last post. The past year has been really hard for us like I wrote, but things are starting to look brighter. I personally believe that tabus don't help anyone so I have strived to be honest and tell people around me how things are with us. Our life is far from perfect and I don't see the point of pretending like it is. You don't get any help or support if you don't ask for it, and saying everything is fine with a fake smile serves no one any good. So again, thank you for being so understanding. It's been ages since I last showed anything I've knitted, so maybe it's time to give you a glimpse of everything I have on my needles at the moment. You know me, never a monogamous knitter, so there's always a pile of WIPs waiting for me. I've been a bit restless lately, so I've been casting on for way too many things that I'm trying to juggle. At this moment I'm knitting two car...

Our Trip To Helsinki.

My husband Magnus had a business trip to Helsinki two weeks ago for 4 days and instead of just staying at home like we always do, Theo and I decided to go with him. I haven't been anywhere for almost a year now, and baby-T has only been to our home town some 100 km away so it was high time to do some traveling. Also, we are going on a holiday to Turkey in the end of May so I wanted to go on a little "practise" trip before that to see how everything works with a baby (for your information: quite well but everything takes about twice as long).  I used to live on this street! The brown house at the end of the street used to be my old home! It was fun to be back in Helsinki! In case you didn't know, I used to live there for 6 years while studying, but it's almost 8 years already since I moved away. After that I've been there to visit friends or on business trips myself and never really had a lot of time to just walk around and see the sig...
