#headtotoechallenge.

This is only the second KAL (knitalong) ever I'm participating in. As the hashtag in the topic line suggests, the purpose of this KAL is to knit garments for yourself so that by the end of the year you can cover yourself in handknits from head to toe. There are going to be 9 garments in total, and 11 months to get it all completed. Simple enough. The KAL is hosted by a Finnish yarn store called Lankakauppa Kerä.

The first garment we knitted was a hat. I chose the Roku hat by olgajazzy and used some leftover Rowan Tweed from my stash. The colorway is called pendle. It's a simple ribbed hat that goes with everything and I've been using it a lot ever since it came off my needles.

The second garment was a scarf or a cowl, and I knitted the Tenchi cowl, also by olgajazzy. I used Brooklyn Tweed shelter for this one. It was my first time knitting with Brooklyn Tweed yarns since they are really hard to come by here in Finland (at the moment we have only one yarn store carrying their yarns). The colorways I chose were fauna and snowbound. I love how the cowl is reversible with both sides having a slighly different look and dominant color. And after this project I do understand all the hype about BT yarns... I wish I could knit more often with them...

Next in line was something for the hands, so I chose the Folk Mitts by erimtl. I'm still waiting for warmer weathers to get to wear them (it's still pretty freezing where I live despite it being almost April, downsides of living by a sea that freezes over during the winter).

Now we are knitting sweaters, so I chose to knit the Arabella sweater by Ann McCauley from Wool People Vol. 7. I'm using Knitting For Olive's Merino for it and the shade is called flaskegron (literally bottle green). It is such a beautiful deep shade of green and it gives a great stitch definition. I have finished the back as well as half the front, so I still have some knitting to do. Luckily the deadline for this 4th garment is in the beginning of May so I still have time.

I'm really looking forward what else we get to knit during this challenge. There are still 5 more garments to knit, but I can't really come up with what they can be. Socks of course, and maybe leg warmers, and something to cover your butt (I have never knitted a skirt or leggins or anything like that so that'll be a first for me). But what else, I'm quite eager to find out...

Salut Chéri! Beret Pattern.

Here is the pattern for the berets I've knitted. The name for the beret is from the t-shirt I was wearing when I took the project photos of the first beret for Ravelry. I thought the name suited the beret, since it's quite classical take on the hat that has become the icon of everything French. Happy knitting! Salut Chéri! (By Far) The Easiest Way to K4Tog.

I have published earlier a post on an easy way to k4tog - knit 4 stitches together - which is an essential stitch in my Cloud mitten pattern. As you might already know it is a bit challenging especially with 2.5 mm bamboo needles that not only have sharp tips but are bendy and especially prone to snapping. Stubborn as I am, I wasn't going to give up and change the design just to make it easier to knit. So I came up with the idea of using a tiny crochet hook to pull the working stitch through other three.  I was planning to use this same method when knitting the second pair of Cloud mittens, but alas, I couldn't find the hook anywhere. I seem to have misplaced it and I just can't remember where I put it... And as you know I don't crochet often so the second smallest hook I had was size 3.5 mm which didn't work for this purpose for obvious reasons.  So I was back to square one trying to figure out how to do the k4tog in an easy way when I got the idea of rev
